Spray or wipe a light coat onto the hinges, the roller stems and bearings (not the nylon wheel face), the springs, and the bearing plates the torsion shaft rides in. 4. Test the door balance
A balanced door is easy on the opener and safe to lift by hand; an unbalanced one is a spring that is quietly failing. Close the door, pull the red manual-release cord to disconnect it from the opener, then lift the door by hand to about waist height and let go. A properly balanced door stays where you leave it. A door that slides back down, or that feels heavy and jerky to lift, has springs that are losing their tension and need a professional adjustment. A door that flies up is over-sprung. Re-engage the opener afterward by running it or pulling the release cord back toward the door until the trolley clicks in. Do not correct the balance yourself, because that means adjusting spring tension.
