What you actually pay for when you hire Seaside
Real licensing & insurance
VA Class A contractor license, $2M general-liability and full workers'-comp coverage. The shops advertising "$49 service call" almost universally are not insured, if something goes wrong on your property, you are on your own.
20,000-cycle springs by default
Most competitors install 10,000-cycle springs (about 7 years for the average household). Coastal salt air shortens that further. Our default is the 20,000-cycle oil-tempered spring, roughly 14 years of life and a 7-year warranty in writing.
5-year workmanship warranty
If our install fails inside five years, we come back and fix it for free, parts and labor. The "1-year warranty" you see elsewhere costs the shop almost nothing because most callbacks happen in years 2–4.
Written, line-item quotes
Once we open up the door and see what's wrong, you get a written quote on a tablet, you sign it, and only then do we start work. No upsells mid-job. No surprise charges at the end.
Same trucks, same techs
Our techs are W-2 employees, not subcontractors. The person who arrives at your house has been with Seaside, on average, six-plus years. They are accountable to us, and to you.
Free on-site estimate
Free in-person estimate across our Hampton Roads core service area. Written, line-item quote before any wrench turns, no surprise fees, no bait-and-switch pricing.
Common questions about our pricing
How much does garage door repair cost in Hampton Roads?
Most repairs we run land between $180 and $480 all-in. The most common job, replacing a torsion spring pair on a residential double-car door, runs $240 to $420 installed with our 20,000-cycle upgrade and 7-year warranty. Smaller fixes like a single roller set or a frayed cable can be under $200. New opener installs run $560 to $860. We give a written quote before any work starts.
Do you charge a service or trip fee?
No, not in our Hampton Roads core service area. Free on-site estimates across Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, Smithfield, Williamsburg, and surrounding cities. Our truly distant routes (Eastern Shore, Currituck NC, Franklin, Gloucester, Nags Head) have a small travel fee covering a 50 to 70 mile drive, disclosed before we head out.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Free on-site estimate across our Hampton Roads core service area. Your technician opens the door, tests the opener, checks spring tension and cable wear, and gives you a written, line-item quote before any work starts. No pressure, no surprise charges.
What is your after-hours pricing?
Same-day weekday repairs during business hours: no surcharge. Evening calls after 5pm: +$75. Sundays and holidays: +$125. True emergencies (door stuck open, car trapped, security risk) we will roll in 24/7, and the surcharge is waived for active 5-year-warranty customers.
Why are spring prices different at different shops?
Three reasons. (1) Spring quality, a 10,000-cycle spring costs about half what a 20,000-cycle oil-tempered spring costs but lasts half as long, especially in Hampton Roads salt air. (2) Labor warranty, a 1-year warranty costs the shop almost nothing; a 5-year warranty means they have to stand behind it. (3) License and insurance, uninsured handymen can charge $100 less because they are not paying for VA contractor insurance. We are licensed, insured, and we install 20,000-cycle springs by default.
Do you give written quotes before starting work?
Always. Once our tech opens the door and identifies what is wrong, you get a written, line-item quote on a tablet, you sign it, and only then do we start the repair. If we find something extra mid-repair, work stops and we get your approval before adding anything. No hidden charges, no surprises at the end.
Do you accept cards, Apple Pay, and financing?
Yes to all three. We take Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and check. For larger jobs (full door replacement) we partner with Wisetack to offer 0%-interest financing on approved credit, soft credit pull, decision in seconds.
Will my homeowners insurance cover garage door repair?
Sometimes. Storm or vehicle damage usually qualifies under standard HO-3 policies; normal wear-and-tear (a worn-out spring) typically does not. We provide an itemized invoice with photos that you can submit to your insurer. If you'd like, we can also bill the insurer directly once the claim is approved.
Ready for your written quote?
No surprise fees, no high-pressure upsells. Just an honest, line-item quote you can keep.
